Cosmic Overture: The Tale of the Moon, Sun, and Stars

The AR exhibition ‘Song of the Beginning’ was inspired by the Jeju myth ‘Cheonjiwangbonpuri’.
As you follow the story of Cheonjiwangbonpuri, which contains the beautiful narrative of the sun, moon, and stars, the beings in the sky come to you in a new way. Gorgeous lights brightening the night, stale air.
We live busy lives without even having time to look up at the sky. It’s a pity that we seem to be gradually losing the wisdom of the quiet darkness.
This exhibition brings back to us the pitch-black night sky of space and brings back the story of the distant past when the sun, moon, and stars began through media art, music, and dance.
I want to imagine and share the infinite beauty and mystery of the universe that Jeju’s old stories have preserved.

Story planning
○ Based on the story structure of ‘Bepodo-eopchim’ and ‘Cheonjiwangbonpuri’, a new story is created by focusing on the process of birth and establishment of the sun, moon, and stars.
○ Aiming for an artistic composition rather than a fragmentary reenactment of Jeju mythology, new elements of dreams and songs are inserted and reinterpreted into the existing story.
○ Referring to the birth of the universe that began with the Big Bang and the process of birth of stars, the relationship with the creation content in Jeju mythology is drawn.

“King of Heaven and Earth’s original explanation: The chaos of heaven and earth has not yet been completely corrected. Since there were two suns and two moons in the sky, the people of Manmin were bound to die from the heat during the day, and they were bound to die from the cold at night.

Correcting this chaotic world order was always a concern for the King of Heaven and Earth. When I came down to this world, I first cleared up the great confusion. First, prepare the Cheongeun Bow and Cheongeun Sal and shoot them down at the sun and moon, two each in the sky. They saved the preceding sun and shot the coming sun and threw it into the East Sea. They saved the preceding moon and shot the following moon and threw it into the West Sea. One by one, the remaining sun and moon were no longer hot or cold. The flowers of life spread out in a harmonious world. The sun and moon, left alone, sang a song of loneliness. The shattered moon and sun became stars and spread the Milky Way to comfort the remaining sun and moon. The song of the stars reached the sun and the moon, turning the song of sorrow into a song of joy. The song of the beginning is engraved all over the world. The song of the beginning will bloom as a flower of love for a long time. ”
